Victorian Penny Taylor was today named alongside Lauren Jackson in the All-WNBA First Team before falling to Detroit Shock in the opening game of the WNBA Finals.
Playing for Phoenix Mercury, Taylor put in a superb performance to lead all scorers with 32 points while adding 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.
But it was not enough to secure victory for her team, with the Mercury falling to the Shock 108-100.
Broadcasters can obtain vision of Taylor’s performance on ESPN from 1:00pm AEST.
It was the first time that Taylor, a WNBA All-Star, was named to the All-WNBA First Team and Jackson’s fifth.
Taylor averaged 17.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the Mercury in her sixth WNBA season, leading them to first place in the Western Conference with a 23-11 record.
The 185cm, 26-year old is an Olympic Silver medallist and a two-time ‘Australian Defence Force’ WNBL Most Valuable Player.
She has also been an MVP of the premier Italian women’s basketball league, Serie A.
She was named MVP of the 2006 FIBA World Championship for women last September ahead of Jackson and led all scorers in the Gold Medal Match with 28 points.
Game Two of the WNBA Finals will tip off at 5:30am AEST on Sunday, September 9 and will be replayed in full on ESPN at 2:00pm AEST the same day.
