Australia Post Boomers forward Matthew Nielsen led his Lithuanian club side Lietuvos Rytas in the final of the ULEB Cup in Belgium overnight.

But it wasn’t enough to stop Real Madrid from winning their first ULEB Cup title.

The former National Basketball League (NBL) MVP posted 11 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 block in the 87-75 loss.

“I thought we came out and we played hard,” Nielsen said after the match.

“We had a good fight in the first half, but they came out ready to go in the third quarter and we didn’t.”

The ULEB Cup is a second-tier professional basketball league with teams from European national leagues that have not qualified for the premier competition, the Euroleague.
