Jackson victorious in cliffhanger
Lauren Jackson has led her Women’s Korean Basketball League (WKBL) team Samsung Bichumi to victory over the Shinhan Bank S-Birds in the 4th game of the best-of-five Grand Finals Series in Seoul this afternoon, 69-68.
Jackson led all scorers with 27 points to go along with 12 rebounds and 6 blocked shots, while her chief opposition, American All-Star import Taj McWilliams-Franklin, scored 17 points with 17 rebounds.
The series is now tied at 2-2.
Jackson posted a dominant 12 points in the opening quarter, connecting on 5-of-7 field goals and 2-of-2 free throws to take her team into the first break ahead 22-16.The defending champions threw everything at Jackson in the second period and restricted her to just 2 points, but Samsung held onto the lead to go into half time ahead, 37-34.The third quarter followed similarly, with Jackson posting a mere 4 points and the S-Birds managed to take the barest of leads with one quarter remaining 53-52.But showing all her class, Jackson shrugged off the added pressure to post 9 final quarter points.A 3-point shot from Jackson’s team mate Jung-Eun Park with 43 seconds remaining gave Samsung Bichumi a one point lead, a margin they maintained until the end behind Jackson’s fierce defence.The final game of the five game series will take place tomorrow.
