Vale Bevan Aitken

It is with great sadness that we advise of the passing of Bevan Aitken at 12 noon today, ending his extended battle with cancer.

Originally from Townsville but spending his last years in Sydney, Bevan began officiating in 1969 and was a referee in the National Basketball League (NBL) from the mid 1980s to the early ‘90s.

He was probably best known and most respected as a referee coach with the NBL from 1994 until 2003, where his frank and honest evaluations undoubtedly benefited many officials.

At this time our thoughts and sincere condolences go to his widow Pam and his three children, Casey, Hayley and Robert, and to Bevan’s brother Trevor and his family.

Bevan’s funeral will take place on Monday April 2nd at 2pm at the Magnolia Chapel, Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, on the corner of Delhi and Plassey Roads, Macquarie Park, Sydney.

A memorial service will also be held in Brisbane at a date and location to be confirmed.

Vale Bevan! You will be sorely missed
